Renovation of a Longère and Contemporary Extension in Lorient

Kervarh House

Located in Inzinzac-Lochrist, Maison de Kervarh offers an immersion into the rural history of Morbihan. This complete renovation project transformed a traditional 19th-century farmhouse into a modern family residence. As architects in Lorient, our mission was to preserve the soul of the stone while injecting new energy through a bold and minimalist timber extension.

Dialogue between Stone and Wood: The art of sustainable expansion.

The architectural challenge at Kervarh lies in contrast. We chose a light, natural wood for the extension, creating a gentle visual dialogue with the roughness of the old stone. This timber extension respects the original silhouette of the building while literally opening the house up to the landscape. Thanks to large windows and a bioclimatic design, the once dark interior is now bathed in light, offering optimal thermal and visual comfort in all seasons.

Interior design and nighttime atmospheres in the Breton countryside.

Inside, the interior design opens up the spaces to create a fluid circulation, ideal for family life. True to our international sensibility, we paid particular attention to the lighting design.

At night, the Maison de Kervarh is transformed: the interior lighting highlights the texture of the stone and the warmth of the wood, creating a hushed and serene atmosphere. This project perfectly illustrates our expertise: breathing new life into Breton heritage through sensitive contemporary interventions, from the landscape masterplanning to the most intimate finishing touches of your interior in Vannes, Lorient, or Auray.
