The project involves renovating and expanding a traditional Breton house. Originally built in the 19th century, it can now serve as a peaceful retreat and a place for family gatherings in the countryside, with breathtaking views of the fields.

Our solution is a new pitched roof structure that extends and mirrors the existing building, allowing light to penetrate into the interior spaces.
The join between the original structure and the new extension is expressed with a differentiation of material. Both natural and soft coloured, the timber completes well the original stone construction. To respond to the need of more light and space, the rectangular plan of the house is extended. This additional length added space can be entered either from a discrete west door or via the house original main door location.

From the north, where the site is accessed by the road, the extension is rather discrete. By contrast, the south opens up with a large bay window on the extension and new, larger dormer windows, inspired from ‘gerbières’ on traditional Breton houses.
