Rénovation et Extension Contemporaine d'une Maison Traditionnelle à Inzinzac-Lochrist, Morbihan
Kervarh House
Nestled in the heart of the Breton countryside, Maison de Kervarh is a 19th-century longère, a traditional stone farmhouse typical of the region. This project involves a complete renovation and contemporary extension designed to breathe new life into the building, transforming it into a bright, modern family home that opens generously onto the surrounding landscape.
Objectives of the Renovation and Extension
The project was guided by this principles:
Preserve the traditional spirit of the house
Bring more natural light into the interior
Expand the living areas to accommodate family life
Enhance thermal comfort and functionality throughout
With a carefully considered extension, the house becomes both serene and practical, rooted in its natural setting yet adapted to contemporary living.
Architectural Solutions and Interior Design
Wood and Stone: A Dialogue of Materials
The use of light, natural wood creates a gentle contrast with the original stone structure. This dialogue of materials preserves the home’s Breton character while giving it a soft, contemporary aesthetic.
A Harmonious Extension with a Gabled Roof
The new addition extends the existing house while respecting its proportions and rhythm. The double-pitched roof echoes the traditional architecture, ensuring a seamless transition between old and new.
Light and Open Spaces
Generous openings, including a large south-facing bay window, bring daylight deep into the home. Inside, open-plan spaces enhance fluidity and connection between rooms, creating a warm and luminous living environment.
Landscape Integration and Viewpoints
Carefully integrated into its setting, the extension was conceived to remain discreet from the northern roadside. To the south, however, the façade opens wide to the fields, with a large glass bay and dormers echoing the forms of traditional Breton gerbières. The resulting play of light and views fosters a deep dialogue between the interior and the landscape.

The Maison de Kervarh project drew upon multiple areas of expertise:
