Exceptional Villa in Tanah Lot – Bali, Indonesia

Rumah Erjara

Nestled in the stunning region of Tanah Lot, Rumah Erjara is a retreat designed in harmony with its natural surroundings. This peaceful sanctuary invites relaxation and reconnection through a total immersion in Balinese landscape.

The project integrates seamlessly with its environment between lush rice fields and tropical vegetation. Every design decision was guided by a desire to create an intimate experience that honors the site’s natural beauty.

Architecture and Materials

A Design Inspired by Javanese Traditions

The architectural concept is rooted in reclaimed teak structures, salvaged from traditional Javanese houses. This noble and durable material lends warmth, authenticity, and a sense of timelessness to the place.

Composition and Volumes

The property comprises five independent bungalows and a main pavilion that houses the shared living areas and pool. Each building is positioned with care to preserve privacy while opening broad views toward the surrounding rice fields.

Integration with the Landscape

The structures blend naturally with the existing topography. Light roofs, raw materials, and generous openings define an architecture that feels discreet, poetic, and breathable fully attuned to its setting.

Landscape and Outdoor Spaces

The landscape design of Rumah Erjara extends the architecture into a lush, living garden conceived as a sanctuary of calm. Local tropical species frame the soft, meandering paths that connect the bungalows, creating a rhythm of movement and rest. Throughout the garden, outdoor spaces invite contemplation, a timber deck for yoga, shaded reading corners, and hidden resting spots for quiet retreat.

At the heart of the project, the pool pavilion serves as a central gathering space. Its curved infinity pool appears to merge with the horizon, bordered by a wide wooden terrace for sunbathing or resting beneath a natural canopy. This space both aesthetic and functional offers a complete outdoor living experience, in harmony with Bali’s light, air, and climate.

Interior Design

The interior design of Rumah Erjara reflects the same philosophy of refined simplicity and seamless connection with nature. Each suite is conceived as a private haven, opening onto a generous terrace with panoramic views of the rice fields. Fluid, luminous living spaces extend naturally outdoors through large sliding openings and natural materials that blur the boundary between inside and out.

The open-air bathrooms, nestled in tropical vegetation, offer a unique sensory connection with the landscape. Custom-made furniture by local artisans combines solid wood, volcanic stone, and natural fibers, creating a warm, minimal, and tactile atmosphere. The overall aesthetic embodies a contemporary tropical elegance, serene, understated, and sophisticated.

An Authentic Balinese Experience

The name Erjara meaning “waterfall” in Sanskrit perfectly captures the essence of the place: a living, fluid space connected to its natural surroundings. The nearby cascading river reinforces this sense of movement and serenity. More than a villa, Rumah Erjara is conceived as an immersive experience, a meeting of architecture, culture, and nature.

Located just steps from the iconic Tanah Lot Temple and the wild beaches of Bali’s west coast, it offers an ideal balance between peaceful retreat and cultural discovery. A destination for travelers seeking authenticity, refinement, and a profound connection to the island’s landscape and traditions.
